Blue & Lonesome Duo

Drop down to the bottom with some extremely strong, raw duets reminiscent of early John Lee Hooker and Big Walter. Blues harmonica master Li'l Ronnie and guitarist / singer Gordon Harrower team up for a joyful journey through some deep, lowdown country blues. In the tradition of great guitar / harp duos like Sonny and Brownie and Cephas and Wiggins, these two explore the roots with a blend of original and classic material... this is what Big Lou on Sirus/XM calls front porch. Even with some amplification this is music to open a couple of cold ones on a Saturday night. - Mark Wenner, The Nighthawks

Blues For Big Walter

Blues For Big Walter

This is a project that I’ve wanted to do for some time now. Get together some great friends / blues musicians and pay respect to one of the all time greats, Big Walter Horton. Big Walter has been a major influence on all of the great blues harmonica players of my generation and beyond. We want to do our part in spreading the blues gospel of Walter Horton. Some people like the legendary Willie Dixon said he was “the best he ever heard” Dixon had heard and worked with all the greats and penned many of their tunes.
This is a non-profit project with proceeds going to the Blues Foundation and HART Fund. We know they will put the money to excellent use. Artists involved donated music for the cause. We’re very excited about the record and are so grateful for the stellar lineup that is involved. We have the great Kim Wilson with Big Jon Atkinson, Mark Wenner, Mark Hummel, Steve Guyger, Sugar Ray Norica, Kurt Crandall, Andrew Alli and yours truly Li’l Ronnie. And Bob Corritore brought us two special tracks of him playing harmonica with two pioneers and Big Walter band mates Jimmy Rodgers and Robert Lockwood Jr.

Little Charlie and Organ Grinder Swing

This CD has been a dream of Charlie Baty for quite a while now and it’s finally here. Most of you know him as leader of ‘Little Charlie & the Nightcats’. There is no mistaking Charlie's creative blues guitar playing as he is truly tops in this field. Charlie always played some jazz tunes with the Nightcats, which has led him where he is today. This record finds him in one of his favorite settings, organ jazz trio. His former Nightcat band mates, Lorenzo Farrell on Hammond organ and J. Hansen on drums and percussion join him on this swinging CD. This CD Showcases jazz, ballads and blues all done with Charlie’s unique guitar stylings. If you’re a Little Charlie Baty fan I think you’ll really dig this record.

Unfinished Business

Unfinished Business

Li'l Ronnie & the Blue Beats Featuring Claudia Carawan

This aptly titled CD 'unfinished business' has been a long time in the making and I believe certainly worth the wait. The Blue Beats were a very popular band in the blues / roots scene during the 80's and early 90's. This is their 2nd CD that they started recording way back in 91'. This recording features the soulful gospel tinged vocals of Claudia Carawan. They had written all the songs and had already recorded 8. But you know, sometimes life just gets in the way and things just don't turnout as planned. Well here it is over 23 years later and they're finally getting it finished. The record is a great mix of American musical styles, 12 originals and two choice covers by Ray Charles and Louie Prima.

Andy Poxon

“Take a brilliant young guitarist/singer/songwriter and team him up with a brilliant young keyboardist/producer/songwriter and turn them loose together and you can come up with a wonderful collection of tunes that are clever without being cute and e motionally deep without being heavy handed. The grooves are solid and relaxed.... I'm diggin' it.”

Andy Poxon

To say Andy has a bright future is an understatement to say the least. Of all the musicians I know personally, tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton is the only musician I know who showed that maturity at that early an age. But let's forget age and just say Andy is an extremely talented guy who really deserves the title "Artist" as guitarist, singer and songwriter and it will be really fun and interesting to see his development. This album of songs represents a young roots musician already developed past his years, and ready to lead us all into the future of pure American blues and roots music.   - Duke Robillard

Legend

Joe Stanley

“Legend” is one label we might apply to Joe Stanley. Others might include mentor, inspiration, trailblazer. Stanley was an integral part of the dynamic Washington D C music scene for more than five decades. His swooping, growling tone combined the dexterity of Plas Johnson and Sil Austin with the raw, emotive wail of Earl Bostic and Red Allen. Joe could hold his own with any of them right up until his passing on January 7, 2007. He kept that muscular, honking sax tradition alive throughout his career. Upon first hearing him in the 1980s, Big Joe Ivlaher likened it to entering a time machine and hearing the best R&B sax men of the 1940s and 50s. Stanley began playing with the D.C. area's premier club band, “The Saxtons,” (AKA “The Saxons”) as a teenager. The band dominated the local pop music club scene. (He kept the band alive in one form or another for more than 30 years.) Joe went on to work with luminaries including Link Wray, Charlie Daniels, Roy Clark, Big Joe Turner, Bill Black's Combo and a then-unknown D.C. talent named Marvin Gaye. Stanley was the first to bring the young, future guitar legend Danny Gatton to the stage, gave D.C. music stalwart Billy Hancock his start in music. He was an inexhaustible source of incredible stories culled from an astonishing career. There was always something to learn from - and about Joe Stanley. Let this special edition tribute continue the education.
